Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld Officially on Release with Juventus Vying for the Defender

Tottenham has finally put Toby Alderweireld open for trade which Juventus came swooping in for a £26 million deal. The 30-year-old Belgian footballer is hot on the trade list as Manchester United shows equal to interest on the Tottenham defender. United’s newly appointed permanent manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer along with other officials of United has been vying for Alderweirdeld to join his side of the fence for a while now.

The Belgian player told Sky Sports that in a statement, “There’s a lot to play for this season. And in the end, I have a year contract left at Spurs, so I don’t look further than this season.” Alderweireld humbly said.

Solskjaer has reportedly seen the improvements in his defensive strategy since his arrival in December. The manager also sets his eyes on upping the positions that need strengthening, which includes the right back, central midfield, and winger as top priorities. With a broader look out on superb talent elsewhere, Solskjaer is challenged with Massimiliano Allegri’s side. According to The Mirror, Juventus can possibly match United’s offer with a £26million buyout clause.

Alderweireld’s current contract is set to expire in 2020 after an extension Tottenham passed with a clause, which activated a release clause in the summer transfer window for other clubs. Juventus is in the works of finding a new central defender this summer and wishes to find a superb player that will stick around for the long run to take the place of veterans Giogio Chielleni and Andrea Bargazali among others.
