Real Madrid’s President Says that the Club’s Success Somewhat Caused their Latest Loss

The president of Real Madrid Florentino Perez spoke at an event post revealing that the success of Zinedine Zidane’s team lies in their most painful loss over the last year. Real Madrid won three consecutive Champions League trophies from 2016 to 2018. Perez believes that he had the hardest time in the last year, during the 2018-2019 campaign where the team finished 19 points behind Barcelona in La Liga.

He tells the Spanish publication, Marca, “Our success made us lose our intensity, we have to recover it. These players and this coach made us champions, so they’ll do it again. Last season wasn’t good and we have to reflect on the criticism.”

In last season’s Champions League specifically during the last-16 stage, Real Madrid was trumped with a victory from Ajax by surprise. Perez says that the Real will have to reevaluate and continue pushing harder to keep their intensity alive on and off the field if they wish to claim the top honor again.
