Inter Milan may have gained an edge in next week’s Champions League match with Barcelona. It’s been reported that Barca’s star player Lionel Messi, acquired a thigh injury which will require him missing the next few games of the team, including the clash with Antonio Conte’s team. Messi himself withdrew from the winning match Tuesday night during the half-time break.
Despite Messi’s removal, Ernesto Valverde managed to pull through for Barca and reassured everyone on the 32-year-old player’s recovery. An official statement from Barcelona said, “First team player Leo Messi has an elongation at the adductor of the left thigh. It is low and its progression will determine his availability.”
According to AS, a Spanish newspaper, Messi’s trip to Getafe on Saturday will be canceled, while a probability of missing his flight to Sevilla next weekend is high. The Balon d’Or holder has had quite the rough season missing the first 4 games due to another injury regarding his calf. Valverde decided to stay on the safe side and give Messi the necessary time to recover properly.
“He had some discomfort in his adductor and we preferred not to risk him. When something happens to Messi, everyone stops, not only on the field but in the stands as well. As a precaution, we have decided not to risk it. In theory, it is nothing more but we will see tomorrow how it is.” Valverde says in a statement post-Villareal victory.
