Lille’s Nicolas Pepe Aggressively Eyed by Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp

Lille’s winger 24-year-old Nicolas Pepe has been on the radar of Liverpool’s Jurgen Klopp. Liverpool is pulling all its strings and willing to ramp up their offer to sign Pepe for the next season, with an initial offer of £71m. With Klopp’s longtime interest on the Ivory Coast player, the team and Liverpool executives aren’t shy of paying the player a huge sum, especially with other teams like Manchester United and Arsenal keen on signing Pepe for their respective teams.

England’s major clubs have not steered clear from showing Pepe that they still exist in case he’s changed his mind. Lille’s manager Christophe Galtier confirms Pepe’s exit from the team, losing a player who was able to pull in 22 goals in 39 appearances last season for Lille. Pepe’s come a long way with his football career and started in the fifth tier in France with Poitiers back in 2012 prior to moving to Angers a year later.

The French-Ivorian player’s breakthrough moment was with Angers in Ligue 1 back when he played in 2016 to 2017 which got Lille’s Galtier’s attention. Galtier tells Canal his statement on his winger’s move saying, “Nicolas Pepe will leave. Life’s like that, football’s like that today.” Pepe made 37 goals in 79 games at Lille, marking it his peak performance while juggling his role at Ivory Coast where he appeared in 11 games since starting back in 2016 for Ivory Coast.
