16 Year Old Football Pro Pietro Pellegri Gains the Most Expensive Transfer to Monaco at £18m

Pietro Pellegri’s transfer to Monaco has been dubbed the most expensive this season. This transfer has gotten a lot of attention due to the player’s age and the amount of his offer. The 16-year-old is the youngest player in Genoa which has made 10 appearances which led to 3 goals. This includes a goal which boosted Francesco Totti’s final Roma match.

This winning goal was enough to exhaust £18m on the player. Breaking an age record is all the 16-year-old has to gain with the popularity of nailing the seventh record fee paid for a player this season. For several young football players, setting records at a young age has become a seasonal surprise. Players who have been paid with quite the price ranged from 18 to 32 years old, and now 16 years old being the youngest thanks to Pellegri.

Aside from Pellegri, Real Madrid also set a new record for purchasing 18-year-old Vinicius Junior from Flamengo. The striker’s transfer amounted to £40m which trumped Manchester United’s offer for Luke Shaw from Southampton.

Liverpool also signed Virgil van Dijk for £75m from Southampton. This transfer also gained a lot of attention for setting a record on age and position. It’s the first time the team has spent a maximum on a defender’s position.

It isn’t such a shocker anymore for many players breaking the records on the youngest and most expensive transfers that took place in multiple teams. The overall world record peaked last summer by PSG’s £220m grab of Neymar from Barca.
